Before buying a Digital Signature Certificate (DSC), check what identity and organisation details your filing portal needs the certificate to show. In this guide, "certificate profile" means those identity and organisation details.
An Individual DSC identifies a named person in a personal certificate profile. An Organization DSC links a named signer with verified organisation details. The difference between Individual and Organization DSC is about the details verified and included in the certificate. The right choice depends on your signing role and the profile your application requires. CCA certificate profiles
This guide covers the main differences, DSC Signature's document preparation checklists, token eligibility, pricing and delivery expectations.
| What to compare | Individual DSC | Organization DSC |
|---|---|---|
| Certificate identity | A named person in a personal profile | A named person with verified organisation details |
| Organisation checks | An organisational affiliation is not established by a personal profile | Organisation existence, association and relevant authorisation are verified |
| Document preparation | Applicant PAN, Aadhaar and photo under DSC Signature's current checklist | An entity-specific list, including applicant and organisation documents |
| Signing or encryption | Check the required function separately | Check the required function separately |
| Changing category later | An issued Individual DSC cannot be converted into an Organization DSC through DSC Signature | A separate application is needed for the required Organization certificate |

An Organization DSC remains linked to its named subscriber. It is not a common company signature for any employee to use. CCA organisational-person guidance
An illustrative choice: If the application instructions ask for a personal certificate identifying you, compare Individual Class 3 DSC options. If they ask for a certificate linking you to your verified organisation, compare Organization Class 3 DSC options. Confirm the requirement before ordering.
Write down the signer's name, role and the entity represented, where applicable. Are you signing in your own capacity, or as an authorised person for an organisation?
A director, partner or proprietor should check the requirements for the specific filing or transaction. The job title alone does not settle the certificate choice.
For an organisation-linked application, confirm which person is authorised to sign and which organisation details must appear in the certificate. Resolve mismatches in the intended application details before ordering.
Use the current instructions for your exact task. Check the accepted applicant profile, required certificate fields, signing or encryption functions, and any registration or association steps.
The DSC selection guide on our homepage is a starting point for comparing product categories. Confirm the precise requirement for your filing or tender before choosing a variant.
Application-specific information can affect certificate suitability. A general use-case list is not a guarantee that every product variant meets every task on a named portal. CCA application guidance
If you have a tender deadline, allow time for both certificate issuance and any portal registration steps.
Individual versus Organization describes the applicant profile. Signing versus encryption concerns the certificate's functions.
A signing certificate is used for signing. An encryption certificate supports encrypting and decrypting data. Signing alone does not make a document confidential. eMudhra certificate FAQs
If your application requires both functions, review the Signing and Encryption Combo DSC options. Select the capability required by your application or tender instructions.
The following is DSC Signature's current document preparation checklist. Organisation documents vary by entity type; it is not one universal list for every issuing CA or verification route.
Keep these ready:
Where GST verification is unavailable, ask which additional business-existence evidence the issuer needs. The initial checklist should not be treated as confirmation that a bank statement alone meets every verification route.
For another entity type, such as an LLP, trust or society, request its applicable checklist before applying. The CA's verification process may require further evidence for the particular case. CCA identity verification guidelines
Choose validity around your expected use and the options available for the selected certificate.
Before buying or reusing a USB token, confirm that its exact model and version are accepted by the issuing CA for your intended certificate download. Also check compatibility with your computer, the required driver and the application where you will use the DSC.
A working older token is not automatically eligible for renewal. CCA's migration advisory permits DSCs downloaded onto FIPS 140-2 modules on or before 21 September 2026 to continue until expiry; ordinary renewal or fresh download onto those modules is excluded after the cutoff. The advisory sets out limited exceptions. CCA token migration advisory
For an existing token, confirm compatibility with your computer and the intended certificate before selecting a without-token option.
DSC pricing varies with the certificate category, issuing CA, validity, signing or Combo requirement, and token choice.
Use the current Individual or Organization product table for your selected variant. Review the certificate charge, token inclusion, applicable tax and any separately disclosed delivery or service charges before payment. An advance payment, where offered, is only part of the total.
This guide links to the current product options instead of quoting one price for every applicant or issuer.
DSC issuance: With complete documents and the required verification completed, DSC Signature normally completes issuance on the same day. Issuer approval and any additional checks still apply.
Physical token delivery estimates:
These are DSC Signature's delivery estimates, not guaranteed arrival times. Confirm the dispatch schedule and destination-specific service when planning around a deadline.
The role alone is not enough to decide. Check the profile required for the particular filing or application and how the signer must be identified.
Check whether the task requires a personal profile or a certificate linked to the proprietorship. If an organisation-linked certificate is needed, use the proprietorship document checklist above and confirm the issuer's applicable process.
These describe different choices. Individual or Organization concerns the applicant profile; Class 3 concerns the certificate class; signing or encryption concerns its functions. Check all three when selecting a product.
DSC Signature's current document list is the applicant's PAN, Aadhaar and photo. Complete the required identity verification as part of the application. Organisation applications have additional, entity-specific documents.
There is no blanket assurance. Confirm the required certificate details, functions and registration or association steps for each application you intend to use.
DSC Signature does not convert or replace an issued Individual DSC with an Organization DSC. Apply separately for the required Organization certificate. Reusing an eligible USB token is a separate compatibility question.
Reuse depends on the exact token model and version, the issuing CA's current requirements, and compatibility with your computer and intended certificate. Older FIPS 140-2 tokens are not for ordinary renewal or fresh download after the September 2026 cutoff, even if an existing certificate still works.
Expect a verification and certificate download process. eMudhra states that renewal requires fresh identity verification. Review the DSC renewal options and confirm the process for your issuer and applicant profile. eMudhra renewal guidance
Issuance and physical delivery are different steps. DSC Signature normally completes issuance the same day when documents and verification are complete. Token delivery follows the destination-specific estimates above; ask about the local Porter option if relevant.
Before ordering, have four details ready: the application or portal, the signer's role, the required certificate profile and the signing or encryption requirement. Then check your documents, token eligibility, validity and current payable amount.
If the category or token choice is unclear, contact DSC Signature for help choosing a suitable DSC option before placing your order.
